NEA Big Read: Orland Park
Orland Park Public Library Wins NEA Big Read Grant
The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read is designed to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Orland Park Public Library is one of 60+ nonprofit organizations to receive a grant to host an NEA Big Read project.
NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
The Orland Park Public Library was awarded $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to provide the community with copies of the book Circe by Madeline Miller, and a companion title Athena: Goddess of War and Wisdom by Imogen and Isabel Greenburg. The library will be hosting a variety of events around these two titles throughout the months of March and April in partnership with local schools and businesses.
Circe retells ancient Greek mythology from the perspective of one of its most infamous women. The library is partnering with the National Hellenic Museum to bring the residents of Orland Park a traveling display of breathtaking and meaningful textiles from the NHM collection showing residents the way that modern Greek women have shared their stories.
