Then this is your opportunity to join the Orland Park Public Library YS Team! OPPL has a thriving group of young patrons ready for your program or book recommendations!
 
We are seeking an innovative and service-oriented professional responsible for reference, readers’ advisory, and programming. We have a fantastically creative team and are looking for our newest member.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using print and electronic resources
  • Develops and conducts programming such as storytimes, crafts, events, etc.
  • Is regularly scheduled at the Youth Services public service desks serving birth to high school

Necessary Knowledge

  • Possess knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Possess knowledge of children’s and teen literature
  • Experience in current technology including Microsoft Windows, web browsing, Microsoft Office suite

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 1-year child-related experiences
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends


Position is part-time at 15 – 18 hours per week including evenings and weekends.
Starting salary is $21.90 per hour.

Youth Services Assistant

We are seeking an innovative and service-oriented professional who is passionate about working with teens, knowledgeable about popular teen literature and media, and eager to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for young patrons. This part-time position gives the applicant an opportunity to work in a spacious library with a dedicated teen space that serves an extensive and diverse community which contains several junior highs and high schools.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory and recommends age appropriate books, media, and other resources tailored to the interest of teens and pre-teens
  • Develops and conducts programming such as crafts, events, etc. preferably with a focus on teens (Grades 6-12)
  • Stay informed about trends in teen culture, technology, and education
  • Is regularly scheduled at the Youth Services public service desks

Necessary Knowledge

  • Possess knowledge of children’s and teen literature
  • Experience in current technology including Microsoft Windows, web browsing, Microsoft Office suite

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 year child-related and/or teen-related experiences
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation
