An annual membership meeting is held each fall. The meeting is followed by great entertainment and treats as a way to say thanks to the Friends for a job well-done. Friends' Board meetings are held bimonthly. Please e-mail friends@orlandparklibrary.org or call Robin Wagner at 708-428-5202 for dates and further information.
The Friends sponsor RECYCLED READS, an ever-changing selection of gently-used books available for purchase. RECYCLED READS is located to your left as you enter the library. And they're always looking for gently used hard covers and paperbacks to replenish the RECYCLED READS shelves. You are welcome to bring in your bags and/or boxes of books to the Information Desk. If you need assistance with your donation, please call Robin Wagner at 708-428-5202 in advance for help.
Look for the Friends paperback book racks at the Orland Park Metra train stations. Commuters are welcome to take these books for their train commute. You are also encouraged to use this forum as a paperback exchange if desired.
The proceeds from the sale of these items and from Recycled Reads support adult, teen and youth programming at the library.
The Library provides opportunities to private citizens and businesses to make contributions in support of library programs, materials, and services. Donations are tax deductible. To find out more, please contact the Library Director, Mary Weimar at 708-428-5203 or mweimar@orlandparklibrary.org.
Gifts may be made on several levels and may be designated in honor or memory of loved ones.
Monetary donations will be used to purchase books, magazines, DVD and/or other materials for the library collections. The amount of the gift is at the giver's discretion. Download a PDF of the form.
Pavers with a name and inscription are installed in the plaza at the library's front entrance. Pavers may be purchased in two sizes: 4" x 8" for $75 and 8" x 8" for $150. Download a PDF of the form.
Engraved plaques with a name inscription are installed on end panels in the Adult and Youth Services Reading Rooms. End panel plaques are $500.
The Library has naming opportunities available for larger gifts.
The mission of the Orland Park Public Library volunteer program is to give surrounding community members fulfilling opportunities to use their skills to provide public service to the community; to supplement the efforts of paid library staff in meeting demands for quality public service; and to further the relationship between the public library and the community it serves.
The first step for those interested in volunteering is to complete a volunteer application, either online or by picking one up and returning it at the Information Desk in the library lobby. Students in grades 6-12 need to complete the Teen Volunteer application. Adults, including college students, need to complete the Adult Volunteer application.
Applications are processed as they are received. Placement of volunteers occurs as positions and projections become available. If you have questions about volunteering at the Orland Park Public Library, please call Robin Wagner at 708-428-5202 or email her at rwagner@orlandparklibrary.org.
