Afternoons @ OPPL: Howard Knotts: Ace of the Prairie

Nov. 1, 2017
Orland Park Public Library is offering a special educational event on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. about Howard Knotts, a World War I pilot.
Award-winning historical researcher Tom Emery details the life of Howard Knotts, one of only five World War I flying aces from Illinois. The second youngest of America's sixty-three aces, Knotts shot down six planes in a month before prolonged captivity in a German prison camp.
This program cites numerous letters and firsthand accounts of his life during and after the war to create a portrait of a fascinating, recklessly brave individual whom one journalist called "100 percent hero."
This event will be held in the large meeting room, room 104. Afternoons @ OPPL is a series of mid-day winter events relating to history and/or culture.
