Library offers new program for English language practice
Aug. 22, 2017
Orland Park Public Library patrons interested in meeting with other patrons to practice their English are invited to attend one of the library’s special get-togethers this fall. The library will be hosting an event called “English Conversation for ESL Learners” twice a month until the end of December.
The first dates in September are Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The library has scheduled convenient morning and night times each month to help fit into people’s schedules.
These events are specifically for patrons to practice listening and conversing in English while making new friends. Orland Park residents can pair up with fellow residents to engage in friendly conversation. This event is aimed at helping those learning English improve their speaking and comprehension skills.
This event may also help foreign language speakers connect with one another.
The library is offering this first type of event as part of a bigger trend. Libraries are now going as far as adding whole departments where patrons can learn English. Additionally, Orland Park Public Library has recently added a new language software to its databases. Mango Languages helps English speakers learn other languages like Polish, Spanish, and Arabic. It also helps Spanish speakers learn English.
Patrons interested in learning more about these opportunities are encouraged to call the library at 708-428-5100 or visit the library at 14921 Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park, IL 60462. Hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
