READING BY DESIGN at the library
May. 30, 2017
READING by DESIGN!, is Orland Park Public Library's Summer Reading Challenge lasting until August 1. Kids, birth through 6th grade, teens, and adults with an Orland Park Public Library card can participate in this challenge-themed, 8 week event with great programs, entertainment and the chance to win some awesome prizes. It's free, easy, and a great way to combat summer slide. Stop by and visit the Youth Services or Adult Services desks to register.
Every summer the library encourages participants to read and participate in events that emphasize the importance of reading for both enjoyment and education. In 2016, the library had nearly 2,300 participants read an extraordinary amount of books and attend numerous events.
After meeting their summer reading goals participants will receive a specially designed backpack donated by the Friends of the Orland Park Public Library. For each book or material checked out beyond their reading goals, participants will receive a drawing ticket for a huge selection of great prizes.
Many prizes were generously donated from businesses in the Orland Park area including free pizzas from MOD Pizza, gift cards from Meijer, gift certificates from Original Pancake House, and family fun packs from the Windy City Thunderbolts.
Sponsors had the choice of donating coupons, gift cards, or gift certificates to different categories or age groups in the Summer Reading Challenge. Some of the summer reading sponsors are long-time supporters of the library. The Friends of the Orland Park Public Library are the oldest. They have donated thousands of dollars to the Summer Reading Challenge over the years.
Dave & Buster's, Orland Bowl and the Village of Orland Park Sportsplex are just some of the sponsors who come back to support the library year after year.
The Summer Reading Challenge runs June 1 to August 1, the last day to turn in reading logs. Reading logs will start to be accepted on June 16.
If you reach your summer reading goal early, you can read more to win additional prizes. For every additional material checked out (or activity completed), you will be entered into the Reading Builds Bridges Drawing.
All students who attend schools within the village of Orland Park that have been visited by the Orland Park Public Library for the summer reading challenge may register for READING by DESIGN. Students must present a current library card from their home library.
The Summer Reading Challenge is free. Participants must be OPPL cardholders. For more information, visit orlandparklibrary.org or call 708-428-5100.
